Seeds: the word that is the draft
The same word gives the same thirteen rounds. Today's seed, free seeds, and the board each one gets.

A seed is a short word, and that word is the whole draft. Everything a run starts from is derived from it: whose scrim room you land in, which four players show up each round and with which hero, which season events you are offered, what a sealed choice opens, which team becomes your rival. Draft the same word twice and you get the same thirteen rounds, spell for spell.
Strictly, a draft is three things: the seed, the mode and the rule version. The engine hashes them together, so jerry in Classic and jerry in Blind are different drafts, and the same word can draft differently after a rules update. That is why every stored run keeps the rule version it was played under.
Today's seed
At 00:00 UTC the site moves to a new daily seed, written d-YYYYMMDD. You never type it: opening a mode hands it to you. Because everyone in the world is on the same word, today's board compares like with like. Same rosters, same offers, same events, and the only difference is what you did with them.
Free seeds
The play page has a seed field. Type any word, or press Roll for a random one, and all four modes then draft that seed. Adding ?seed=anything to a mode URL does the same thing. Letters, digits and hyphens survive; everything else is stripped and capitals are lowered, so Jerry Test 123 becomes jerrytest123.
A free-seed run does not go on today's board. It goes on that seed's own board, at /board?seed=your-word, beside everyone else who drafted the same word. It also shows up in the free-seed showcase, which is sorted by points but mixes seeds, so read that one as a display case rather than a ranking.
Why type a word instead of rolling one
If you only want another draft, roll. A typed word earns its keystrokes when it has to be repeated somewhere, because a seed is an address, not a setting.
- Rematch. The button under any report carries that run's seed, so you draft what they drafted and the two scores mean something.
- A room. Agree on a word with friends, or say it on stream. Everyone drafts it, then you open that seed's board and read the order.
- An old day.
d-20260901is the first of September. Past dailies stay playable, and they sit on that day's board rather than today's. - A rerun. Same word, same offers, so you can try a different steal against the exact same thirteen rounds.
What a free seed costs
Nothing in the scoring changes. OVR, the season, prize money and season points are computed exactly as they are on the daily. Three smaller things differ.
- Rarity is near zero. Rarity compares your picks with everyone on the same seed and mode. On a word only you have played, the ratio is one to one and the score is 0. It only becomes meaningful once a crowd stands on the same word.
- Two daily achievements stall. Anything counting distinct days played, and Back to Back, need daily seeds. Everything else counts normally, verification included.
- Events can repeat. A daily seed avoids the events its previous days used. A free seed has no history to avoid, so it can hand you one you saw yesterday.
Rooms, kept seeds and export
Typing a seed, drafting it and standing on its board are free and always will be. What Pro adds is the room around a seed: a name, a short link and a page of its own, so "play thursday-scrims" becomes a link you can paste. Pro also keeps seeds on your account page with your best run on each, and exports a seed's board as CSV. Anyone can open a room and play it, whether or not they pay.
No word is luckier
The seed is hashed before anything is drawn, so a long word, a clever word and aaa are all just numbers by the time a team is chosen. There is no difficulty hidden in the string. The only thing you really choose is whether anyone else is standing on it with you.
